A more personal approach to therapy
What is Hypnotherapy?
No - Hypnotherapy isn’t the way you see it on TV.
Hypnosis involves the use of an “altered trance state” which may seem like an alien concept. However, Cognitive Hypnotherapy makes a clear distinction - discussing Trance as an ‘everyday state’.
It is not special, and actually happens everyday.
Here’s an example -
Imagine your morning routine… the things you do before you step out your door… now imagine each individual task… and all the patterns and ways you may do them…
You probably didn’t think to imagine the direction you brush your teeth, which hand you use to switch the kettle on, or how to tie your shoelace.
Whether you realise it or not you are constantly being transported from your conscious “thinking” mind into an unconscious “reacting” trance state where things just happen.
Luckily, you need trances, or else you’d be late for work.
What is your Unconscious?
Research shows that around 90% of your day is guided by your unconscious from information gathered throughout your life.
Your unconscious brain is a supercomputer - calculating approximately 11 million bits of information at any given time. Anything deemed “useful” is stored in the Cortex, reconsolidated within your Hippocampus and is utilised to protect or simplify your life.
However, your brain doesn’t always get it right.
Strong emotions make us stupid
The problem is this - our nervous system was designed millions of years ago to steer away from more obvious harm (sabre tooth tigers) and towards safety.
Remember trance states? Now imagine if you had to think about how to manually move each muscle to run away from Mr. Tiger. Chances are you wouldn’t make it very far.
But - modern society has created an environment containing thousands of stimuli that our protection system only knows how to deal with in (or an adaptation of) 3 ways - Flight, Fight or Freeze (FFF). Suddenly, a perceivably big event such as an interview, has become Mr Tiger.
All behaviour has a purpose
Neurologically, all behaviours, good or bad, work to protect us.
For example - an athlete who is nervous before a game is actually a representation of their unconscious mind trying to protect them from “danger” while their conscious attempts to fight the feeling.
Not all behaviour should be taken seriously.
Working with your mind
I aim to de-hypnotise you out of your negative trance states and install good ones. No problem is too big or too small. The possibilities are endless -
Achieving Calm - Anxiety, Panic Attacks/Phobias, Stress and sleep or OCD
Finding Confidence - Sports performance, Public speaking or Interviews/Exams.
Lifestyle Changes - Weight loss, Food/Alcohol Addictions, Eating Disorders.
With the use of Cognitive Hypnotherapy and NLP, we can work to reprogram your brain.
It’s time for your unconscious to work with you, not against you.
